Frequently asked questions
A community assembly brings together residents to study an important public issue. Participants learn about the issue, discuss it together across different perspectives, and develop recommendations.
While each assembly will address its own question specific to its community, the assemblies held in 2026 will generally focus on the broader topic of housing.
If you received an invitation, it is because your household was randomly selected to receive this invitation from a list of all residential addresses in your community.
You must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of the area where the community assembly is held. Only one person per household may volunteer.
Not at all. We are looking for engaged community members, not experts. The assembly begins with a learning program so all participants have the background information they need. Your experience as a member of your community is what matters most.
You will:
- Hear presentations on relevant housing trends and community needs;
- Ask questions and explore different perspectives with fellow residents;
- Work in small groups to deliberate and weigh options; and
- Contribute to a set of community recommendations delivered to relevant decision-makers
If selected, you will receive $100 for full participation.
Of those who receive and respond to this invitation, 36 participants will be randomly selected to form each community assembly. If you are not selected, you will be informed of future engagement opportunities.
The recommendations produced by the assembly will be presented to relevant decision-makers in each community.
